In Our Nature - Sounds Good
offering wildlife cruises and gong baths on & around the Berwickshire Coast in the Scottish Borders
WHAT I OFFER
Hi, I'm Liza Cole. I set up In Our Nature in the autumn of 2020 after being made redundant from my job as Senior Ranger at St Abb's Head National Nature Reserve. Up until then, I had been a Ranger for my whole working life (30 years - yikes!) and had been lucky enough to live and work in some amazing places including the highlands of Scotland, Mid Wales, Devon and, for the last 19 years, the Berwickshire Coast. During this time I had some truly amazing wildlife encounters, and built up an in depth knowledge about the ecology and behaviour of a lot of the wildlife to be found in Britain. So when I was made redundant, it was a no brainer for me to set up
In Our Nature.
I started developing the Sounds Good part of the business a little later. I have enjoyed singing and drumming for many years, but I only started really tuning in to the therapeutic power of sound a dozen or so years ago when I went to my first mantra chanting session. Since then, I have had great fun exploring the many different ways of enjoying the beneficial properties of sound, been on lots of training courses and I have built up quite a collection of interesting instruments. I first began running sessions for others about 8 years ago, but this was on top of my day job, so I didn't have the time to run as many events as I would have liked. So, again, redundancy offered me an opportunity that I felt wasn't to be missed!
So the result is that I have developed a business, In Our Nature - Sounds Good, that may seem a bit weird to some, but that I hope is a little wonderful too!
WILDLIFE CRUISES
With spectacular scenery, rich & varied wildlife, and amazing geology, the Berwickshire Coast is the perfect place for nature lovers. If you would like someone with in depth local knowledge of and huge enthusiasm for the area to help you explore, then look no further!
I love being out in nature and sharing my passion for wildlife with others. For those who wish to join me out and about, I offer private wildlife cruises for groups of 6 - 12 people. What we will see depends on the time of year but could be tens of thousands of nesting seabirds or hauled out seals in spring and summer; thousands of pupping seals in late autumn; or dolphins, porpoises or even whales at almost any time of year.
GONG BATHS
We all instinctively know that sound is good for our health and wellbeing. Whether its listening to or playing music, and perhaps dancing or singing along; or hearing the sound of waves breaking on a beach, or the wind in the trees. When I was struggling with stress, anxiety and depression a few years back, tuning into the therapeutic power of sound really helped me. In fact, it was life changing! So now I love to help other people connect with the health-giving properties of sound.
I run regular gong baths in Coldingham, Berwick-upon-Tweed and Dunbar, and occasional ones in other locations in the area. I am also happy to bring these events to other localities the Scottish Borders, East Lothian and North Northumberland if there are enough people who want to give it a try and see if it is for them.
LESS ABLED ACCESS & SAFETY
As far as possible I ensure that my tours and events are as accessible to as many people as possible. The boats I use are easy access and we are able to get regular sized wheelchairs on board for ambulatory users. If you have specific needs, then please get in touch and we can explore options.
All my activities are risk assessed and are managed so that you can enjoy them safely. I am IOSH (Institute of Safety and Health) and MCA (Maritime and Coastguard Agency) trained and have more than 30 years experience of leading groups safely. I have Public Liability insurance cover up to £2 million.
